What causes tooth discolouration?

As we get older our teeth naturally darken, and drinking coffee, tea, and red wine combined with bad habits such as smoking lead to staining which affects the overall colour of our teeth. Tooth whitening can remove tooth stains both on the inside and outside of the tooth.

Teeth whitening treatment options

At Orthosmile, we have a few solutions for whitening your smile, including:

  • At-home whitening
  • In-surgery whitening with Zoom power whitening
  • A combination of at-home and in-surgery whitening

The treatment we recommend will depend on your budget, lifestyle and how quickly you want to achieve results.

At-home teeth whitening

At-home teeth whitening requires using a whitening gel in custom plastic tray moulds. We have both day and night-time gels available, which you will use daily for 2 to 3 weeks. Results from at-home whitening last for up to 2 years, and you can top up weekly or monthly as needed.

Zoom power whitening

Zoom professional whitening treatment uses a hydrogen peroxide whitening gel to swiftly brighten your smile. After placing the solution on your teeth, we will use a special Zoom light to penetrate the enamel and break up stains.

The gel is applied for three 15-minute sessions, for a total treatment time of 45 minutes. Once the treatment is finished, we will use a flouride gel to reduce tooth sensitivity. You may be asked to avoid staining foods and beverages for a couple days to ensure you get lasting results.

Who can benefit from teeth whitening?

At-home whitening kits are most effective for mild to moderate staining. For more severe cases, we recommend in-office treatment. We will tailor your treatment to your specific case. Please keep in mind that whitening treatment will not affect white spots or previous restorative work.
